Well headed up the mountain for a workout and some swimming but again the pool was shutdown. They should refund me some money every time I’m there and the pool is closed because it’s far to often. Anyhow I got an awesome workout in and even did some light skipping to work on the ankle. I had an amazing workout starting with wide grip chins. Then hit the shoulders with some shoulder presses and this was my heaviest to date doing 140lbs for some serious reps. After that did some seated lateral raises. Tricepts were next doing cable pressdowns. After that I did seated row and headed in to the cardio room for an intense ab workout. Did toe catches with dumbell curls and skipping in supersets. Did elbow to knees, planks on ball more skipping. Was a great start to the ab workout. After the abs did more arms, some pushups, roman chair, dips, tricept machine, preacher curls. Was a great workout. Beautiful day~

Workout :: Physio Pool
Well went for a workout and a physio session in the pool. I know what I need to do and that is keep my range of motion and not imobilize it while it heals. Trick is to try and limit the chance of continuing to injure it and to keep the swelling down. Well the pool water wasn’t very warm so that will help keep the swelling down… Anyhow started with the workout doing shoulders (shoulder press and seated laster raises), arms (cable pressdowns, dumbell curls, preacher curls), abs (hanging leg raises and toe catches) and some wide grip chins. After the workout headed into the pool for some lengths and to walk around in side the pool. Did front crawl and breast stroke trying to use my affected leg and ankle with out putting to much pressure on it with the kicking motion. Was great and I do feel much better than I did before going into the pool. I have to add the pool there is not to bad some days and other it’s beyond disgusting. Today it was pretty cloudy which indicates it will probably be closed down again and I hate when that happens.
Foot healing
Well the foot is healing, I can weight bear on it so that is sooo positive.. I’m thinking 4 weeks at this point. Just wonder if the bone flake floating around would cause a problem… Anyhow the swelling isn’t bad if I stay off it and keep it up and ice frequently. I think the pool was a great help. Was going to go today or tonight to the gym but my beer on tap and a gold medal game, not going to happen!
Workout :: BUM ANKLE
Well I was offered a cast or no cast at the ortho clinic today. Opted for no cast and headed to the gym to try and do some workout (all sitting) and also a bit of pool work. It was great being able to get my but out and do some activity. I did wide grip chins, hanging leg raises, shoulder press, seated lateral raises, cable pressdown (rope), preacher curls, seated dumbell curls, incline press, toe catches, pushups, elbow to knee crunches. After hit the pool and did some lenghts driving with the good leg and managed to do some walking in the deep end as most of the weight is suppored by water. In the shallow end a bit more difficult.
Broken
Well I got a call just before Sydney’s volleyball playoff game from Hospital asking me to come back advising me that my ankle apears to be broken. Could I come down and get it splinted till I can have a follow up with Ortho Fracture Clinic. I said I would qualifyfor the Boston Marathon before I turn 40 so I’m thinking that maybe I should do it where it all started, back at Disney. Disney Marathon is January 9th, 2011. That would be 9 days before my birthday. We’ll have to see how this heals up, I would like to do it sooner but everything happens for a reason.
Running Log :: bloody hell
Well my road to Boston just got a bit longer yesterday. Ended up rolling the ankle and tearing all the important things in the ankle. Be off running for at least a month but we’ll get there. I had some great help from two good Samaritans who were kind enough to stop at the side of road and take me home for wallet and emerg. Then a beautiful woman came to meet me at the hospital and turn what could have been a crappy day into a great date, thanks Annie! One day at a time is all you can do… Was a beautiful day though, awesome day for a run. I have to say I was starting to loose my faith in people when cars kept passing by seeing me rolling on the ground including an empty taxi and nobody stopped till about 5 minutes later like I said, two women stopped and helped me out. Happy 40th birthday Kim (the driver who stopped)…
NAILS IN THE FENCE
Someone shared this with me yesterday evening as we were discussing how people judge and pass judgment with regards to choices we might make. How either based on appearances or circumstances and innuendo they are mere gossip mongers hearing an account, twisting it and lobbing knives. Anyhow this passage seemed very fitting.
NAILS IN THE FENCE
There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him
a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must
hammer a nail into the back of the fence. The first day the boy had
driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned
to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually
dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to
drive those nails into the fence.
Finally the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all. He
told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out
one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.
The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father
that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led
him to the fence. He said, “You have done well, my son, but look at the
holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say
things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put
a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you
say I’m sorry, the wound is still there.”
Injury :: No exercise

Well I’m just about ready to start back at the gym for just upper body at the moment and limited. I really need to stretch. I think I’m starting to find the cluprit in all of this and I think it’s my job. I have very tight hamstrings at the moment and so I started reading, then realized the proper word as they don’t seem to loosen up is tight hamstrings. Then I started to read all the problems associated with tight hamstrings and in there are back and groin pain both of which I have. Just figured my groin hurts from the groin pull but the groin pull is probably related to the tight hamstrings and the cause of my injury at the gym. Then I started realizing that many “athleetes” get hurt because they sit all day at work and the sitting causes “shortening of the hamstings”. I really need to start getting up at work, taking frequent breaks, stretching and really need to start getting everything to loosen up. I will not get back running till this is taken care of.
Injury :: Hate that word
Well I’m in serious pain. Everything hurts, IT band, groin, left and right leg, right shin, left lower shin. Where do I start. I was able to get past it all except the groin pain. I think the overcompensation for that took it’s toll on my right leg as the groin strain was on left side. My right calf after yesterdays run was a mess. I’m thinking a new pair of shoes are in order also. So this week I’ll hop on eliptical and see if I can do some healing and get a new pair of shoes. This whole thing is very frustrating. I was doing soooo good. Check back soon to see where I’m at!
Running Log :: everything hurt
Well this was a tough run, it was beyond hot and everything just hurt (shins, groin feet). Think I need an extra rest day or two. Anyhow did a 10km run in 50:08 for an average pace of 4:55 per km. I ended up having to walk back as it was just way to much with the heat. Anyhow I’ll lay up tomorrow and get an elliptical session in and short runs next week just to let the groin heal up a bit more.
