Halloween :: WOOOHOOO

Well took the girls out for Halloween, well my three youngest and Airlies friend from school. Sydney is to big and to cool to hang with us and that’s ok. Could it have been colder out? I wore a short sleeve with my small jacket and I was absolutly freezing. We hit the important houses, ours, the neighbours, Mr. Michel’s, Mme Claire and a few other choice places. They got sooo much candy. We also hit one house that just scared the hell out of Nyah (the photo with Michael Myers) and made the rest of the night very long as she would not let go of my hand for the remainder of the night. Anyhow here are the pics.

Time Travelers Wife :: the movie

Well I have nothing nice to say about this movie. This is the worst adaptation of a novel I have ever been forced to sit through. I watched the entire movie on the premise that it must get better. It never does. I read some reviews prior to watching it that described the absolute lack of chemistry between Henry and Claire and wow it was worse than Nicole and Tom in Eyes Wide Shut. This was horrific. All the great points of the film were not in it, how he proves his time travel to his Dr. How he was crazy before Claire as an adult shows up and his relationship with Ingrid. All abscent. This was a horrible screenplay and it was done by Bruce Joel Rubin. Had I known he was responsible for Stuart Little 2, Deep Impact I would have had a feeling. But this guy also wrote two of my favorite movies, Jacob’s Ladder and Brainstorm. They must have picked him because he wrote Ghost

1 Cup a day?

coffee_sun
Anyone who knows me know my love of coffee. Look at my tattoo and you’ll see the wind blowing coffee beans in the sun. I have now been told by a physician that I need to cool it with the coffee. After just purchasing my aluminum stovetop expresso maker I have to cut back to a cup a day excluding caffeen free (that’s like smoking non smoke non tobacco non tar, non amonia cigarettes). I had a caffeen free cappuccino today, why bother! So I’ve have one black coffee today that contained caffeen and it’s 2pm and I’m crashing fast. Oh what to do, I can tell you what I won’t don’t be weak and hit Timmies. ARRRR… I had to vent! Now I feel a bit better.

NAILS IN THE FENCE

Someone shared this with me yesterday evening as we were discussing how people judge and pass judgment with regards to choices we might make. How either based on appearances or circumstances and innuendo they are mere gossip mongers hearing an account, twisting it and lobbing knives. Anyhow this passage seemed very fitting.

NAILS IN THE FENCE

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him
a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must
hammer a nail into the back of the fence. The first day the boy had
driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned
to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually
dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to
drive those nails into the fence.
Finally the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all. He
told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out
one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.

The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father
that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led
him to the fence. He said, “You have done well, my son, but look at the
holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say
things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put
a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you
say I’m sorry, the wound is still there.”

Workout :: No Run :(

Well I stared out with 5 minutes to workout on my lunch and then a quick workout before my run. My left leg I hope is just very tired from the lay off and then the run Tue and Wed. Headed over for the workout and did supersets for everything so very little rest in between. Did dumbell bench presses with superset of hanging leg raises, wide grip chins, cross cable and cable curls. Headed over to the treadmill to do my run and my leg was just to tight and didn’t want to put my self back on the no running list so will give it a days rest and do my 3 miler tomorrow.

Running Log :: 5 miler

Well today is the five miler run of the mid week. Kept my pace reasonable at 8:27 minute miles for the entire run. Did a 5 minute warmup walk before starting my run and I want to make sure I really incorporate some good stretching and also the pool this time around at least 2X week. I’ll see if I get a chance to hit the pool tonight after I drop the girls off. There is so much to this time around as far as training goes. Eating right, devoting the time to running, work, family and trying to get the Cyber Lounge off the ground. Anyhow great run, 5 miles in 42:15 and now back to work and all sweaty! We’ll save the workout for tonight after I get some of my Butter Chicken! MMMMM

Book :: The Time Traveler’s Wife

the-time-travelers-wifeWOW! WOW! WOW! What an amazing book. It took me much longer to read than I had planned but you have to read around the rest of your life. This book was an amazing book and it’s alwasy so much better when the idea, the concept the style is original. This book was like nothing else I’ve read. With that it was a bit difficult in the beginning as it kept jumping from point in time to point in time and the two main characters are always different ages, in different places. But what an amazing read. Henry is a time traveler moving around and at times even running into himself. He has a DNA mutation that gives him this ability which is a curse. Always arriving in his new place naked and he meets Claire, the love of his life. She is a chile and he is a man but every time they meet their friendship grows and their love blooms. I’m not going to give the book away, nor it’s ending which could be sad or joyus depending. I love all it’s twists. With a time traveler that can run across himself, go back and see his mother before she passed. So much to offer. I recommend this book and now it’s time to see the movie. I have already questioned a few people on some key parts in the book and they aren’t in the book, how sad for the movie. Anyhow I hope you enjoy the book.

Running Log :: Marathon Training Week 1

hyannis-2010logoWell today is week one of my 18 week progression to Hyannis Port Marathon. I took it real easy today focusing on my gait and recovery. Going to really concentrate on stretching and trengthening my legs and shins. Start doing the stairs a couple times a week and as much as I don’t like it hit the pool also. So today I did a brief warmup on the elliptical to get the blood flowing and headed over for a workout. Did three sets of hanging leg raises (15, 12, 12) and superset with wide grip chins, again three sets. Then some crosscable presses for the pecs, I so love this one as it works my shoulders, stabalizing the parts that got weak from two shoulder surgeries on the left shoulder and my separation  of the right shoulder. The crosscable was done with a superset of toe catches, three sets of each. Some arm work doing cable curls with superset of plands for the abs, three sets and single arm cable pressdowns for the tricepts. After the workout time for a run. My run was 3 miles in 35:05 for an average pace of 8:22 minute miles. Total calories burned for just the running portion wer 423 calories. After I had my turkey meatloaf and mashed potatoes that I made the other night and a coffee. Oh and don’t forget the stretching which will be the key to this training. I’ve not put enough into stretching and I’m sure it was a limiting factor.

Workout N Cardio

Well headed out for round two of my workout and did hard shoulder and arms as well as a bit more abs and added skipping. I started with shoulder presses and did 45 lbs a side with 45 lbs added to the lower portion of the lift. Then lateral raises on the machine. Following that did dumbell curls with skipping then cable press downs with skipping. After headed to the roman chair and did leg raises and dips (superset) followed by preacher curl machine. Finished off with elliptical for 20 minutes. Great evening workout. Twice in one day, have to love it!

Workout :: CooCoo

fall-wind
Well again I find myself up early and I can hear the wind laying in the bed. I can’t fall back asleep and I’m not overly comfortable. I thank my friend in a quick test message for letting me vent and try and get my but to the gym for 6am. Well I stepped outside, and it it’s windy, rainy and cold. 4 degrees and feels like -1 with the windchill, Arggggg. Walk up the stairs and decide I’m going to see what kind of intense workout I can pull off. I started with my wide grip chins but this time not on the machine with a weight offset, just Will Smith kind of wide grip chins. Awesome burn, loved it, 5 sets with a superset of toe catches attacking the lower abs. After the wide grip’s I did a seated cable row with a superset of planks keeping the abs tight. Next is throwing 50lbs on the bar and doing standing overhead barbell presses, 3 sets with a superset of hanging leg raises. Cable crosses would wind up the workout and I have never done these, what a burn. Anyhow it was a great start. I figure I’ll be back in the gym tonight so why just burn out now. I’m glad I got there in the morning and figure I’m going to get back in that habit.
The painting is by BILL WESTERMAN (FALL WIND AND RAIN), I had my idea of what I was searching for to represent the image of the wind in my head and this is what I was thinking and I found it almost right away with a google search.
