Well just finished the Toronto Scotiabank Half Marathon and I’m pretty proud of my time. My bib number was 9685 and I finished in a time of 1:42:01 (race pace was 7:47 minute miles). I really wasn’t sure how the foot was going to hold up for this race. It was my first race since Disney. I’m pretty pleased, considering I was battling a cold I came in where I wanted, somewhere under 1:45. I found the course very nice, not too crowded. Volunteer staff was amazing, course was nice, there were a few hills but nothing major. Good race, good result and easy to get to and from.

Running LOG :: TORONTO SCOTIABANK HALF MARATHON – 1:42:01
Running Log :: Half-Marathon 3 days away
Well figured I’d get one last run in before the half marathon, just to make sure nothing seizes up. Anyhow did a nice easy run at the gym for 5 miles. Did it in 41:40 for an average pace of 8:20 minute miles. I am feeling much better than the rest of the week. I’ve been very sick and this morning took me forever to get going. Had no idea how I was going to feel today. I’m still very congested and have my headache but I took a break today so that helped tremendously. Anyhow the run is on Sunday at 7:30 am. Going to do the run, get in the subway after and grab my car at work. Jump in car and drive to Wainfleet and get a skydive in (weather permitting). Will make a full day!
Running Log :: SICK SICK SICK
Well as you can guess by the heading, I’m not feeling well. I went to the gym anyhow to get a short run in (this is taper week). So anyhow did a 4 mile run with the worst cold. My throat is killing me. Did the run in about 32:50 for an average pace of 8:13 minute miles. That isn’t all that bad considering. I can’t wait till my run this weekend but I sure had better feel better than I do today.
Running Log :: stupid machines
Well my plan was a 4 or 5 mile run as I didn’t get to do my long run yesterday due to sickness which I’m still fighting. I went to Premier Fitness down the mountain where I usually go and the breakers kept jumping turning off the machine in my run. Switched to another machine and the emergency stop button fell and again the machine stopped. This was tough on the legs so I gave it up at aroune the 2.5 mile mark, could have been 3 miles. Anyhow I was running at a 8:20 min mile pace. There isn’t much to write. I have my half marathon this weekend and at the moment I’m feeling very sick. Need to get over this quick.
Skydiving :: what a day 5 jumps
There is so much to write about my skydiving day today. Let’s start with 5 jumps WOOHOO. Well they were all amazing fun jumps. I did three of them with Darren who was working on his coaching, thanks for the great work Darren it’s greatly appreciated. Anyhow all my landings today were great and without incident, yes Darren could have turrned earlier but the last one was the sweatest of them all, 16′ to the pea.
Double back loops were on the “ordre de jour”. Pretty much worked on back loops and stability. Did sit fly exits, and learned how to control them better if I start to get some instability thanks for the advice to whom ever gave it to me, I can’t remember off hand.
It ended with a sunset skidive which was awesome except for the tinted goggles which made reading the altimater a bit difficult. On that last jump I got video from Rick that I can’t wait to post here but there was a problem with the burn to CD so it’s going to have to wait a few extra days till I can get back there to burn it again. Anyhow alll in all amazing day of skydiving, now it’s 10:30 pm and we are getting ready to go out for a few drinks, again the most amazing day.
Running Log :: 5 miles
Well good run at lunch. Did a 5 miler and kept the pace relax. Don’t want to push it this close to a race. I’ll get a long run in on Sunday and next week take it a bit easy with my week runs. Tomorrow is going to be a blast, should be some good skydiving tomorrow which is what I’m going to spend the day doing. Anyhow for this afternoons run stats (again this was an indoor run on the machines which I’ve been doing all week) 5 miles in 41:40 for an average pace of 8:40 minute miles. My mileage this month will greatly surpass all previous months this year. Just have to remember nice and slow. For the fall I’m going to concentrate on running the different trails this city has to offer. I will also try and pick up a little digital camera that I can bring with me.
Running Log :: 6 miles reverse split
Well decided to do a good six mile run for lunch. Also figured I’d do a reverse split, 8:19 minute miles for the first half and 8:07 for the second half of the run. The legs felt great the entire run, not a moment of fatigue or instability, just a great run. The time went by very quick. Anyhow I’m looking forward the Toronto Waterfront Marathon next weekend (I’m doing the Half and Paul (http://www.paulpreston.ca) will be doing the full. Anyhow for my run statistics, 6 mile run in 49:00 for an average pace of 8:10 minute miles. I’m very pleased with how my running is coming along. My weeks total last week was 25 miles which compared to where I was on my road to recovery 2 months ago is quite incredible.
Running Log :: 5 miler
Well this was a nice and easy 5 miler. Didn’t push it, kept a nice pace and just didn’t go crazy. We’ll run a 6 miler tomorrow and then another 5 the day after. As for my long run this weekend I’ll probably just keep it at 10, 11 at the most as the half marathon is next weekend. Who knows I might just pull up at 9 this weekend. You’ll have to come back to see what I did. Anyhow for todays stats, did 5 miles in 41:40 for a pace of 8:20 minute miles.
Workout :: Chest, abs, biceps
Workout at home as I’m watching the kids so there is no getting to the gym. Today is a layoff day from running so did a chest, ab and biceps workout. When I workout at home I tend to change it up a bit. Tried a decline cable crunch which was quite the workout. I just don’t like the bench I have at home, will have to look at getting a different one. Other than that the workout was good and quick. Do a few more ab exercises before bed.
Workout :: Shoulders Triceps and Back
Did a workout at home today while the girls took a nap. I’m sure I’ll hurt tomorrow, pushed the shoulders and triceps pretty hard. Between that and the run tomorrow I’m going to be right burned out but that’s the way I like it. It’s been too long.
