SOLO 4 :: Missed the DZ

Well this was solo jump number four with Mike. The jump started out well, I was calm and relaxed for the ride up. The exit as you’ll see from the video needs works LOL considering I went right out of kilter as I was reaching to perform the PHT. Was supposed to do two barrel rolls but if you watch closely they are both left ones. Oh well I’m going to try it again next time. The landing, missed the DZ by about one kilometer but hey, safe and stood it up. Found a good field and did a great landing and thanks Pete for the ride back.

Weather or NOT!

Oh how I hate sports where you have to rely on weather. This is the second sport where I have to look at the weather. When I was learning to kiteboard I had to look at the wind and the rain to an extent. If that wasn’t bad enough, now I’m getting into a sport where I have to look at wind, rain and cloud cover. Ok how frustrating is this sport. I find I’m always looking up now, what do you have in store for me this week. I have a whole new respect for the sky, for the clouds, I look at it all through different eyes. Anyhow the weather reports for this weekend aren’t kind and well as they say at Skydive Burnaby, hurry up and wait.

Running Log :: 38 Minutes 4.2 miles

Well decided to lay up at 38 minutes tonight. Was going to go further but figured why push my luck. Legs are feeling pretty good, there is still tendon pain on left leg but nothing major. The leg recovers pretty fast now so there is no point in taking a chance. I think if things keep going this well I might try the Toronto Waterfront Half Marathon. Anyhow did 4.2 miles in my 38 minutes maintaining a pace just under the 9 min mile mark for approx 620 calories. I think it’s time to start back working out as well. I’ll have to start doing the split days again, workout lunch and run evenings.

Running Log :: 55 min 10k

Well ran a 10K today and the legs feel pretty good. The tender leg (the one recovering from the tendonitis) is staying stable much further into the race. Much less tenderness than there used to be. Really trying to keep the increases at no more than 10% week. Anyhow ran 55 minutes for 9.97KM (6.20 miles) and burned approx 930 calories. That felt amazing. Such a long road. My goofy’s challenge was in mid January and I’m only now able to get up to 10Km and it has been very painful. The one great thing to come of it is the lessons I’ve learned in being to agressive in both training and also in recovery.

TURNED OUT GREAT :: 2 SOLO JUMPS

Well thought today was going to be a bad one. Got up early to pack a lunch for the day with the girls and head to the drop zone (www.skydiveburnaby.com). The girls weren’t getting along great in the beginning and Tailem wanted mommy. Ouch this didn’t look good. My cousin Danny was there but didn’t bring his son, getting worse and he goes for his jump. Then you guessed it, hey Tara, are those clouds? Yep, clouds, light rain and we are on weather hold. Oh well, like they say “hurry up and wait”. Jacqueline got to go also, so now I’m chompin at the bit. Anyhow do the dirt dives, go over a few things with Scott and I feel great. I actually have color today. The girls started to get along and Sydney (the oldest) really took on the role of babysitter and looked after her sisters without driving them nuts. Guess what Daddy got to dive. well he got to dive twice. Thanks guys for a great day. Here are the jumps :

Running Log :: 40 min

Well another lunch time run. Leg is quite tender but all in all it’s good. A day or two of recovery is good and the leg feels good.. I’m really trying to keep the distance and pace under control. Part of me just wants to push it and the little guy on the other shoulder says keep it slow, don’t be crazy. So we kept it simple, 40 minute run at just under 9 min miles for 4.5 miles and 800 calories. Always feel awesome after my run.

Running Log :: 30 min

Well nice little 30 min run today. Good thing I cut it short, felt the tendon getting a little tired so better to pull up and just keep building. Did 20 min run, pace was just under 9 min mile for 3.5 miles and 500 calories. The run felt good but felt the legs getting a bit tired at about 20 min. Yesterday was my longest so far so I was surely paying for that run. Take a layoff day tomorrow for a bit of recovery, run Friday and Sunday. Recover Monday and do the 10k on Tuesday evening.

Running Log :: Lunch run

Well went to gym for a run at lunch and pulled out a 50 min run at just under 9 minute mile. Ran 5.6 miles in 50 minutes for 850 calories. The run felt great, the legs good and really concentrated on keeping my gait through the entire run. Hydration at ever 15 minutes. We’ll have to see how the leg feels later on but I think I’m ready for my 10k race next week.
