Well it’s been 18 days since the marathon and the only cardio I’ve done is one elliptical session. My left foot which still has some slight symptoms of the Tibialis Posterior tendinopathy is healing (slowly). I’m itching to work it out but don’t want to get set back further. The elliptical session a week or so ago seemed to set me back so I don’t want to push it. I’m still waiting on the orthotics insoles which will arrive next week. I’ll try a very short run on the treadmill once they arrive.
I’m also just getting over the flu which took me out of commission all week. I’ll be back at the gym tonight and see about doing a little elliptical session and assess the foot after. I’m going to research some self physio for the Tibialis Posterior tendinopathy now and see what I can do to speed uprecovery. If I find anything interesting I’ll post it here.

The flu and Tibialis Posterior tendinopathy
Workout :: No cardio, not needed
Well I had one crazy workout last night. Every muscle group to failure. This morning I woke up sore and have been feelin’ beat up all day. The lack of sleep this weekend isn’t helping. I did upper body and abs yesterday night and while doing leg raises I was building up a real sweat. Could just feel my heart pounding. I’ll post what my back to basics routine is at the moment the next blog post. I found it in a muscle magazine as a beginner or back to basics article. I need to get back into peek shape for the running season. My left foot is still quite sore so I’m avoiding cardio till I get the new orthodics. I’ll let you know how they workout.
Ottawa Tomorrow :: Quick workout tonight
Well quick workout tonight and off to bed. Some elliptical and that’s about it. I’m off to Ottawa for work tomorrow for the day. Have to go to a school board for the day and see how an application works, the coding and the back end DB. Going with Fred from work. Fred will be doing the code moidification for the application and I’ll be handling the DB back end. Enough geek speak, the site isn’t really about that part of my life (not for the moment anyhow). See if I can get some shots of Rideau Canal while I’m there. Will bring my camera and take a few quick pics of Fred and I while were there. There won’t be much time, flight is 7 am. Arrive some time after 8am. The meeting is at 10 am (should have some time for breakie) and finishes around 3pm then our flight home is at 7:30 pm. Might have time for a quick supper in the market (I hope), some fish and chips — Yes I know that’s horrible after a week of training. Anyhow I’ll post the pics and let you know how it went. I wish it was warmer I would have loved to go for a quick run after the meeting.
Cardio again :: 10 days later
Well it’s been 10 days since the marathon, since the foot pain. Well tonight I did elliptical and it felt great. 30 min at pretty intense pace. Followed that up with a nice Bananas-a-whey smoothie from Booster Juice and then a nice little workout after. I’ve worked out 4 days straight so didn’t push to hard tonight, did chest and abs. I’ll try a nice little run (treadmill) next monday and see how that goes. My orthodics should be in in about one and a half weeks. That will hopefully make the world of difference.
No I haven’t quit training :: Workouts
As I’m still recovering from the Goofy I’ve gotten back into working out as well. I’ve worked out Sun, Mon and last night and will this evening work out and try elliptical. My foot should be good by mid next week (Hoping). I looked at the Goofy for 2009 and it’s already 65% full. Incredible! I doubt I’ll be doing it next year. I would love to but it’s getting quite difficult on the family and they all want (the kids) want to go when I go. I’ll have to find another exciting run to do (qualify for Boston would work) that will not be as far away.
Sized up for orthodics :: It’s a wonder I can walk
Well the leg discrepancy is pretty visible when someone who really knows what he’s doing takes a look at it. I’m talking about my chiropodist John Infanti. Went to see him this evening to get a mold made for proper orthotics. Not only was I sized up but was also given a good lesson about my legs, the mechanics, problems and what I can expect from these. Very informative evening. I have to say, I’ve been to two different places and they were night and day. Anyhow I am bow legged, have a serious leg discrepancy (he’s surprised I’ve gone this long untreated). I’m so excited,I should have them in a couple of weeks and then have to start training in them gradually. Hope to be ready to run in them for the around the bay. I’m going to the gym shortly and will do elliptical tonight. Will take the rest of this week before I can run on this foot I think.
Back to the gym
Well it feels good to be back to the gym after a week off. Also I’ve gone back to basics for working out. I havn’t had a serious workout in quite some time so I’m starting a 12 week progression program. Weeks 1 – 3 is full body three times a week (I’ll do four as I have already been working out) using machines (no free weights). My big stopper has been the shoulders. I have had a biceps tenodesis on the left shoulder that was performed after a failed SLAP repair. I have also seperated the right shoulder and never got back to working out properly (progression) sinces these problems so now is the time. If you have any questions about either my Biceps Tenodesis or my SLAP repair and having to go thru two surgeries, please don’t hesitate to either comment your questions to me or email me at s_gingras@hotmail.com . I’ll will respond to your questions.
I also don’t work out my legs anywhere near as much as I should be considering I have a goal to reach the Boston Marathon by the time I’m 40. With that said it was a great workout and in my next blog I’ll acutally post the workout routine. It’s late, I’m tired and I just had a penutbutter chocolate protein shake and am bagged.
Walt Disney Marathon 2008 :: Youtube Video
Video I found on Youtube of the marathon, not a bad video. At the end there are clips of first mens and first womens crossing the line as well as running through castle.
It was what I thought :: Tibialis Posterior tendinopathy
Well the foot injury was exactly what I thought, Tibialis Posterior tendinopathy! Went to see the Dr. this evening and he said it was Tibialis Posterior tendinopathy. Here is a link if you would like to know more about it. I should be back running by next week. Just need to keep icing it and taking Ibuprophen. After the layoff I’m going to start doing two runs a day on two of my run days to get my mileage up more. I would like to start doing some speed workouts and from what I have been reading it’s not even advisable to start doing real speed workouts before reaching 50 mile weeks. Tomorrow is my Birthday and I will have three more years to try and qualify for Boston to reach my goal, “Boston before 40″. We’ll have to see how that will play itself out. Anyhow for those that read this blog, you’ll be happy to know I should be up and running again in a week.
Disney Marathon and Half Marathon Photos
Well the Disney Marathon Photos http://asiorders.com/view_event.asp?EVENTID=25142 and Half Marathon Photos http://asiorders.com/view_event.asp?EVENTID=25145 have arrived. I ordered them last year and they were great. Way better than they were on their site. This is a not a plug for ASI Orders, I am not getting free prints by you going there, I’m just letting you all know. I hope all those that ran had a great time, I know I did. My wounds are recoverying and I’m hoping to be back running next week. I’m hoping to run Toronto Marathon, Hamilton’s Around the Bay, the Niagara Half again and possibly the Ottawa Marathon. You’ll have to check back to see how my training is going and how I’m healing up.
